Perhaps I am too young to understand where this idea of feminists as manhaters comes from, but it certainly is ridiculous. Luckily, we have science to now tell us that feminists are not manhaters. How ever would we have gotten by without this newfangled theory?
- “Our work finds that, indeed, non-feminists believe in traditional gender roles such as men being breadwinners and women being caregivers. At the same time, these non-feminists actually appear to resent the confines of the traditional roles they advocate, which presents a paradox for women and men in traditional heterosexual relationships,” says researcher Melinda Kanner.
- Well put! -Charging once more for the same old “content” — as argued for by David Simon, in an impassioned CJR article — will inevitably lead newspapers exactly where it led banks investment “banks” and automakers: into economic implosion. To reinvent the buying and selling of news, it’s necessary first to reconceive the making of news. The AP’s latest attempt at business model innovation, for example, is a heavyweight “rights management” system for the same old stuff. But protecting yesterday’s “product” is exactly what prevented the music industry and Hollywood from rediscovering the art of value creation.
- The New Yorker takes a page from Demitri Martin and writes pure genius: (1) Libraries are awesome; (2) Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream is tasty; therefore: (3) A library-themed Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream would be “tasty awesome.“
- Obama vs. Marx in a pretty damn good column: Modest enhancements of what has been called “positive liberty” do not come anywhere close to socialism; they instead make liberalism’s benefits more widespread. Conservatives seem to think that any increase in the size of government means a step toward socialism. But, if this is the case, then George W. Bush ought to come out of the closet as a socialist.
- Well, I think Mexico is doing just fine for the most part, I mean, it’s not going to hell or anything … so does this guy. Why Mexico has a large amount of illegal immigrants crossing the border, I think, largely is proximity: The opinion that Mexico is breaking down seems to be shared by much of the American news media, not to mention the Americans I meet by chance and who, at the first opportunity, ask me whether Mexico will “fall apart.” It most assuredly will not.
