JD, your comment reminds me of what I used to have to explain to 2nd graders… when it’s a ‘joke’ everybody laughs. Interestingly, I’ll bet that Letterman’s comment made in school as a peer would label him as a bully and he’d be sent home. LOL

JD did it ever occur to you that when the national dialogue is this vulgar that more than a few of our best and brightest women (and men) would decide not to expose their family to it?

Second hand information… Some time back I believe L tried to make a joke about Obama something wherein the punch line was, “…a black cat in the Whitehouse.” That was booed by L’s self-selecting audience. No jokes about an adult political figure holding a lightening rod position but a governor can be referred to as a “slut” and her children targeted? What “fun.”

I personally like Palin. I was getting ready to get out of my car to shop when her acceptance speech came on the radio. I stayed and listened past store closing. I thought her’s was the only authentic American voice I heard in the whole campaign. But she is a creationist and creationists have, in my mind, no place on the national level.

Lenny Bruce pushed societal limits but he was never so desperate as to skewer anyone’s children for a “laugh” although I’d give a dollar to hear what Lenny would have said to Letterman after hearing the comment.

Your 1st Amendment argument is unserious. The government isn't abridging Dave's speech, and those (like me) speaking out about it are exercising theirs. As for Lenny Bruce, George Carlin, et al, those guys did TV, too, and knew where to draw the line when they did.

Odd. I didn't see that picture probably because I only read the news, not pseudo-celebrity gossip that has nothing to do with how the world is actually functioning.

Anyhow, what excuse? There is no need to make an excuse. I'm defending comedy and the first amendment. This country likes to forget that it exists when they don't agree with something said. I don't want to even compare Letterman to Lenny Bruce, but you people are on some moral witch-hunt. Like the saying goes "those who can be offended should be."

P.S. That joke was still better than 90% of anything Dane Cook, Carlos Mencia or the Larry the Cable Guy has ever crapped out/stolen.

Wrong. There was a photo sent all over the place of Rudy, Sarah, and Willow at the game. Either way, it was not funny, and not a goof on A-Rod. That's some weak excuse-making.

Really people??? It was a joke and a pretty good one at that. Calm down. It was obviously in reference to Bristol being preggers. I doubt most people in the audience even knew Palin has another daughter, much less that she was the one attending the baseball game. I didn't before reading the reaction to that joke. Moreover, it was more a joke about A-Rod being a man-slut. Jesus, why does American public hate fun so much?

But I haven’t seen anyone comment on the audience. Did anyone boo, did anyone throw a shoe (where are the Iraqi journalists when you need them?) did anyone do anything but chuckle? What if such a joke had been made about an ‘adult’ of color as we say in our racist free society much less a 14 year old of color?

To really understand this you have to realize that the Left doesn’t just have a different view of things, their view is morally superior to everyone else’s; more virtuous in the way they eat, drive, live, etc. Anyone who disagrees is fair game.

Robespierre said that terror is the natural emanation of virtue.
