Today’s Quickies and…From ‘House’ to White House

House spoiler alert!

Actor Kal Penn was killed off on House last night, paving the way for him to become my newest co-worker, sort of.  Kal will be working at the White House as Chief Tiny Hamburger Procurer.  Or something.  I gotta give him props for taking the pay cut, and right in the prime of his career.  Maybe he’ll be the next Ahnuld, or Jesse Ventura.

Where will DailyKos get their tinfoil?

Redstate raises the spectre of Alaskan incest, but who the eff is Levi Johnson?

Another good day to be gay.

Chia Obama is not racist.  Obama Snuggies are a different story.

Franken pulls ahead.   That race is tighter than a frog’s relationship with his mom.

Do they also have a top-secret “Dry Rub” program?

White People Problems

Don’t forget to lick the stamp.

  1. In WW II, American medics were often trained in treating battlefield gunshot wounds, by working on cattle that had been shot point blank with large caliber rifle rounds. It was cruel as Hell, and not well known, but it did happen. As some armies cleared minefields by goading cattle and sheep through them first. While I would hope they exhausted every other option before they did live animal tests, the reality of war is that it’s not just humans that get ground up.

    ..
The Levi thing,. I agree with your earlier post, I wish they’d just leave familys and hangers on out of it. Redstate is correct about the hypocrisy of using Levi now, when they considered him a freak before,.. but now when he says what they want to hear.. He get’s a hotwax shine and buff with nary a mention of his flaws or motivations. If he was a gold digger before, isn’t he one now too? Which makes anything he says suspect, since he stands to gain from juicier details.

I guess kos’ll have to go back to catching republican thought waves through their dental fillings,.. That does however make them vulnerable to our super duper extra special ninja secret mind control devices.

    shhhhhh………

    our secret,… kay?

    Chia pet=racist?

I always just thought they were no class, low rent, but whatever gets them off the shelves..

I hesitate to say anything about Franken, I have a tendency to airmail various objects when he’s the subject of conversation.

I hope you post about the new Star Trek movie… This ones perked my interest far more than any of the other ones did. and I’m not a Trekker, though my brother is.

  2. Tommy wrote an article today re: Palin’s comment concerning missle defense systems and N. Korea. Palin referred to Alaska as “The Sovereign State of Alaska.” I must say, this struck me aas odd.

I mean, I’ve heard of the “Great State of Alaska” or “The Commonwealth of Massachusetts.” Never, The Sovereign State of New Jew Jersey or Caleb’s Sovereign State of Carolina. If it’s not a colloquialism, I’m curious to know who else refers to a state that way. What is she going to do? Usurp the power of Obama and be the first governor to have foreign policy power. Has she ever heard of Federalism?

I think Bristol’s vagina needed a missle defense system. She should at least be consistent with her preaching.

  3. LMAO Cube. Geezes! LMAO!! Stop!! It’s even funnier when one has way too many Pinots. LMAO!

  4. Hi PCL. I fired at joke at you and Michelle somewhere on PM. In the indoctrination article. I can’t see on my big screen what I write b/c the background is black. Without two much techno mumbo jumbo, I can’t see what the fuck I write. (cue) I project this to a 64 inch big screen. Anyway wo make this area white so I can read it? On the laptop it looks fine. On other gadgets fine. But, this is all about me. No one writes on black paper! C’mon The background color must change to the superior background color..

Basically, quit using affirmative action on the color black. White is better.

  5. And, if someone could answer the “sovereign question” that would be cool. Is this a colloquialism? Is it used whenever she writes a statement? What is normal language? It’s interesting in light of NOT ONE GOVERNOR DOES FOREIGN POLICY.

  6. Cube;

And, if someone could answer the “sovereign question” that would be cool. Is this a colloquialism?

She’s correct Cube, and I’ve heard it used that way before.

“In the United States, the nation (i.e. the federal government) and each state are considered sovereign. Among conflicts in which the concept comes into play are those between the federal and state governments (see states’ rights) and those between citizens and either the federal or a state government.”

    http://www.answers.com/topic/sovereignty

It’s fallen out of favor in recent years, but post civil war till mid 20th century it was the commonly used phrase in political speechs. I’ll be 50 in June, and I’ve heard it used both in History class and in speechs here in Ohio. The classical defintion would suggest you’re correct, but our history makes it uniguely used for our purposes.

Remember the Colonies each considered themselves independent and sovereign states and they only agreed to form the United States if they each could keep their own sovereignty to a great degree. The Federal government taking those powers that it alone could excercise well, were the individual states couldn’t. Hence the states rights, provisions and the clause providing that any subject not mentioned in the Consitution directly as a federal power, fell to each states sovereign government.

Hope that’s what you were looking for.

  7. Sorry for the typos, I sometimes type too quickly when I’m trying to put a thought down fast, plus some of the keys on my laptop stick on occasion. It’s gotten pretty abused, kids,.. and dad’s spilt coffee too… had to get my wife her own laptop, since I’m kinda rough on this one. She’s fussy, high maintinence, bright, funny, and my superior in many things.. and she’s a democrat..

I am working on that,.. but after 12 years,.. she still says no.

crap… I did get her to vote for Bush,.. yes yes, I am evil to the core, but my wife and kids like me..

    least,.. I.. think they do..

Hey Honey,.. I,…………………………… ok dear,.. I won’t do that anymore,.. I ,.. awww pweaseeeeeeeee…. oww.. noooo. not the book,… pwease no,.. I;ll be good,… not the book,.. http://tinyurl.com/cpzxlt

    yeah,.. they love me.

haven’t beaten me in my sleep yet.

even got me a new tire for my cage on Fathers Day..

yes, I obviously have a lot of fun with the more outrageous of the stereotypes. A hobby from working a lot of night shifts,

  8. Whew!! I come here for a break from battling the ‘truth’ in PM. Ummmm. Ummmm. Ummmmm. Okay, back to it.

Cube, I’ll look for the joke. I did catch the ‘brainwashing’ comment–palm oil??? LMAO!

  9. Yo. As a colloquialism, perhaps. I’ve never heard it used that way. It flies in the face of the Supremacy Clause. States are only “sovereign” to the extent they don’t violate a Federal power. This is federalism. Check out the 9th, 10th, and 11th amnements.

Without getting too much into it, she uses it in a context that is odd. Usually, Alaska is referred to as “The Great State of Alaska.”

The very definition of “sovereign” in Websters states it must have exclusive power. Considering Palin is encroaching into constituionally protected areas of The President, it is a very odd choice of words. As if she has a say in foreign policy with N. Korea.

Or any governor for that matter. “Sovereign?” So, she has unfettered access to determine our foreign policy. No. Respectfully, that belies federalism.

I just googled, “Sovereign State of Alaska.” Check out the (lack) of results and even the cases saying it is not “sovereign.” It is odd to me because it reeks of separitst shit.

  10. Apparently, I’m not the only one who noticed this patently wrong verbiage by Palin…

    http://www.sodahead.com/question/305211/did-you-know-that-alaska-was-its-own-country-and-that-gov-palin-want-more-earmarks/

  11. Oh Yeah. I wrote sorta the first article on my blog. It’s about Bachmann and Camp Obama. Hello Mudda. Hello Fadda.

    http://cubicpolitics.wordpress.com/

  12. I very much respectfully dissent sir. Click on that link and fart around a bit. You will find Palin is very much wrong. The Articles of Confederation allowed for sovereign states. Basically, she’s a moron. If you remember that from history, that’s what she is thinking about. She is posturing as if she has a say on N. Korea. See if you can find that use of words on the internet aside from her or referencing her.

Palin is wrong on that and it is intentional.

  13. I seriously doubt Cube, she’s challenging the President on foreign policy, No governer would, don’t read between the lines an intention not overtly spoken.

Amendment 10 – Powers of the States and People. Ratified 12/15/1791. Note

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

My education on it was pretty basic, and from an Ohio prospective, the 10th is pretty clear in showing that states do indeed have a signifigant degree of sovereignty. The Federal government was a compremise Cube, you know it was. The only way to get any of the colonies to give any power to a federal government was to ensure that states would enjoy a high degree of home rule. That the Constitution was only agreed too because there was anarchy without a strong federal role.

As a front line Civil War state, our teaching on it was very much a states sovereignty issue. The southern states all believed they could succed from the Union whenever they chose. It was never the United Satates is, before that war, it was the United States are,. which is technically correct.

I think you’re misreading this, letting your dislike of Palin cloud what is to me a straight forward issue. Clearly, even during that period, states were considered individually sovereign. As the federal government bloated in the 30′s and 40′s, it began to exert more and more power over what had before, been considered not the federal governments business. That attitude has allowed political factions to force changes on the states they before never attempted.

    some good, civil rights
    some bad, affirmatve action
some moronic, conformity on speed laws, drinking ages.

That you are eager to find proof of Palin attempting some kind of coup is really silly. you think she’s smart enough to wage an under the table palace coup, yet call her a moron,

    which is it?

I did look it up on the web Cube, without using her name, and the link I found supporting her use popped up first.

Are individual states totally sovereign,. no, they cede certain powers such as foreign policy, interstae commerce regulation, postal service to the feds.

    but,.

they do remain very much self governing, hence no govenor has to report or answer to, the president or Congress, they are separate and sovereign in that degree.

    so,..

the word sovereignty as it’s classically defined isn’t quite right, but as I noted, our circumstances are unigue to everyone else’s. I have heard Virginians use the Great Sovereign State of Virginia, at least in the Civil War battleground states, like Ohio,. it is used, sometimes, that way, when it is, it’s a gentle reminder to the feds..

we ain’t sock puppets for your amusement.

it doesn’t mean she’s filling sandbags and manning up the Alaskan National Guard with recruit swearing alligience to Alaska’s Constitution. There is no there for you to find Cube, you’re being overly sensitive.

and really, if your argument were true and mine had no merit, we would be the United State of America,.. the singular. not plural.

but no one says that, or wants to say that.

  14. My take on Palin, is she was taken unprepared, and unexpected on her part, and with little prep tossed into the meatgrinder of national politics. She was and is intensely popular in Alaska, ran unaided against corrupt factions in her own party, and won a strong mandate for a cleaning up of the Satehouse.

for which, the progressive community gave her zero credit. They attacked her family, accused them of incest, of being separatists, of being religious zealots. All false, all debunked, and all ugly beyond the extreme. She was a sitting govenor, and accused of being too inexperienced to be a VICE president.

and the media having sold Tina Fey as the real Palin got their man,.. who’s vast inexperience is somehow… not important, elected.

    congratulations.

God help us now, because I can’t stand the thought of Jimmy Carter II, and that is exactly where he’s headed. Bumbling one thing after another, so tone deaf to reality,.. he didn’t think soliders and vets would be outraged in the extreme by his, they can pay for their own gunshot wounds, plan?

Tell me, that isn’t an indicater of how his inner circle thinks?

She’s a bit raw, but she can learn, a talent that I find lacking in the current administration. Speaking as someone who served during Carters last months, it isn’t she has to be perfect, if he sinks like a stone. Reagan won by a landslide, much bigger than Obama’s win. All it takes, is for 4% of the voters, swing voters to get buyers remorse, and the GOP takes it back,

is that why the savage attacks against Palin continue even after the election is over?

Is the left that afraid of her?

before you deny it, think back,.. how much time did any progressive spend bashing Dole after the election in 96? or Quail in 92 when he was out?

    how much time?

it’s as if she were in Washington leading marches down Pennsylvania Avenue. Why the outrage over her every word, why still smirk that her daughter admits her choices were dumb, and maybe mom was right?

She isn’t running, yet, so you’all need to calm down abit.

It shows a certain agitation, that could be taken,.. as fear.

  15. Oh, Mark, not a Trekker! Say it ain’t so! That puts him in the indiscriminate company of Caleb Howe, who will venerate anything with a red shirt in it.

  16. Having stepped back and taken a breath,. if I have made any assumptions about where people stand on a certain issue that are way off base. I apologise for that, being new here and not knowing anyone’s prospective, aside from the esteemed Mr. Treacher whom I have read before, I may have fallen into the new guys mistake.

Making an assumption about where you may be, based on past arguments with other parties. If I have made a blanket assumption, again, Me sorry…

It’s easy to forget, not everyone on the left is of one opinion, something that drives us on the right nuts, when it’s done to us.

Another reason why it’s important for us to still talk to each other, how else to get a feel for where a thought is coming from, and why it’s held. Hard to do when it’s in a hostile enviroment with the word “retard” being tossed around like a poisin dart.

This is a blog I rarely see anymore, where both sides come visit. Usually it’s only one side, with the outnumbered faction being driven off, and shut out. Hotair is pretty good that way, they do allow critics in, and it can get heated. I’m not registered there, they aren’t accepting new ones when I checked last. Full up.

Allah’s a militant atheist, and starts brawls for fun it seems, Ed is more a real new media leader, I hope they accept new ones sometime soon. though I can get lost trying to follow large numbers of commenters when they get buzzing over a hot issue.

  17. I have two, two red shirts,..

and I didn’t say I wasn’t a really big fan, just not up to trekker level.

brother has a full uniform from Next Gen with a phaser. That takes it a touch too far for me,.

did I mention I have red shirts, two of them,..

  18. Re: Sovereign State comment.

I have to go to court this morning. It struck me b/c you never hear a state called that. At least, I haven’t. The 9th and 10th (11th is for sovereign immunity cases — go find Seminole Tribe of Florida SCOTUS case and the the test I believe called In re Davis (it’s In re some shit) has a concept of state freedom trumped by the Fed in tons of examples.

The Big One being The President is explicitly mentioned in The Const (and by extension, the fed) as being in charge of foreign affairs. It’s an odd choice of words given the context she is using. That’s only my point. It’s very odd.

If someone can find any State Governor ever referring to a state that way post Articles of Confederation, lemmee know. I don’t think she’s out to do anything. But, she’s out of bounds here and sounds like a tard. Especially given the lack of defense system for missles happening under her roof.

Maybe I’ll write about it later tonight. On my stupid blog. Click my name maybe.

  19. I must take a stand. I am pro use of the word, “tard.” I consent to being called a “tard” and worse. Therefore, I feel absolutely justified in saying Palin sounds like a tard. It takes one to know one.

    Have a great day all.

  20. Mark, there is only 1 true Star Trek, and its fans are called Trekkies. Anything else is glorified fanfic, including Next Generation.

  21. And also, don’t put words in my mouth. I’m not eager to prove any conspiracy. You might want to click on the links I provided before you pop off on matters of law you are clueless about man. In fact, in the links I provided earlier, you will see I’m not the only one who noticed it. I would guarantee you Palin has not the foggiest as to interpretation of the 9th, 10th, 11th Amendments or the Supremacy Clause.

States haven’t have sovereignty since the Articles of Confederation. We are a Republic. She shouldn’t wantonly express her displeasure with foreign policy. She does this becasue she is utterly stupid and hasn’t a clue about law. She can’t even explain Roe let alone the intricacies of Federalism. You’re telling me Palin knows about rights reserved to the states? Puhleeeeeeez. If she did, she would know she has absolutely no rights when it comes to foreign policy. Othewise, we would have fifty different foreign policy strategies.

    http://www.pamshouseblend.com/diary/10305/ca-hi-or-and-wa-governors-join-sarah-palin-in-protesting-n-korean-missile

    http://www.sodahead.com/question/305211/did-you-know-that-alaska-was-its-own-country-and-that-gov-palin-want-more-earmarks/

I would encourage you to try to find one instance other than this of the word choice. How do you reconcile the fact that no governor engages in matters of foreign policy because that’s not their job. Why? Alaska is not a sovereign state. It is a city state answering to the Fed unless we’re talking about a states “police powers” and matters not reserved by the Fed. Ummm. Federalism has been around for some time. Remember prohibition? Or, Slavery? Or the end of Slavery? Or Brown v. Board? Was Alabama a sovereign state then? Read up on George Wallace. Why? Federalism. Foreign Policy is not within the purview of any governor. She should shut up and talk privately about this with Obama if she is so inclined.

You never let anyone outside the family know what you are thinking. She is a moron.

  22. Re Kos tinfoil- I am looking forward to the Kossack denunciation, post-bow, of the president’s coziness with the Saudis. Obama’s of course, not GWB’s!

  23. Cube, you are a lawyer?

I’m impressed, it’s easy to just expect other people on the web to be kind of like yourself, absent any other information about them. I’m only glad I didn’t embarrass myself to much, I only have a high school education. I just remember vividly having this same debate in class with my history teacher. Must have been oh, in 73 or so. I’ll let it go with this.

I don’t believe it’s use was unintentional. I think like some other governors she’s making a simple point to the president. That she is a governor of a proud state, and that any attempt to railroad conformity on them, ala stimulus, would be ill advised. They do have the means to (peacefully) resist, and will use them. A very American way of thinking. The Supreme Court hasn’t been altered yet, and Obama must know it would be a roll of the dice to fight it out there. So Palin is essentially saying, deal with us, talk it out, or be ready to fight it out.

not so dumb a way to get your voice heard.

  24. [...] Today’s Quickies and…From ‘House’ to White House [...]

  25. The word tard,..

I’m not the word police, and wouldn’t suggest anyone not say what they mean. Just please keep in mind,. some of us are a bit,. well. full disclosure, I have two mentally retarded brothers, one of them passed away two years ago, I bent many a bully’s face inside out in grade school, jr. high… retarded doesn’t mean stupid, it means they are slower to develop, slower to understand, but they do and can get an idea if it’s explained with care.

Imagine too my outrage to discover after the election, that activists had come to his group home and filled out an absentee ballot with him, to vote for Obama.

His IQ was so low in school they wouldn’t put a number on it, he’s like a three year old. I’m pursuing it with my youngest brother, but the Home is playing dumb, and it’s hard to get anyone to talk about it. But I’d be just as damn mad if he’d been prodded to vote GOP, it’s the same as giving the helper a second vote. Joe would say or do anything to please a grownup as he sees them. He’d vote for Johny Bravo if you told him to.

So retard is a loaded word for me,

There’s no shame in Joe being who he is, but I’d be horribly shamed to be a vote collecter working the disabled group homes, those guys are whores. The news mentioned allegations of this, but I never gave it any thought till Joe volunteered he’d voted at the family gathering on Thanksgiving. He mentioned it, not us, which is why I find it credible.

Cube, I respect you, but please, if you would, save it for the worst offenders. Sparingly,. either way,. I’ll never complain again about it’s use, I won’t play that game, not policing what people say. I just felt, I had to mention there are other prospectives on it.

  26. [...] Today’s Quickies and…From ‘House’ to White House [...]

  27. I posted my comment while doing other things, so I missed the reply comments Cube that you posted before I entered mine.

We’re talikng past each other here, you seem to think I’m not listening, and I’m reasonably sure you’re skimming my points without considering them at all. I never used the word conspiracy, I don’t believe in them as ageneral rule, humans are not that complex, or that organized.

You can feel that way about Palin if you like, and I’m telling you, I’m not obligated to share it. Pagelia says she is not stupid, and that Couric is one of the dumbest people she’s ever met, she also considers herself a classic liberal. In my experience liberals always use moron as a default statement of condescension when dealing with a Reaganite, like it’s hardwired into their inner moonchild,.. Lets try this then.

You never once addressed my point about special circumstance, or why if you’re right we are the United STATE of America. Dismiss it if you like, but at least acknowledge the point was made.

So, no governor has any right to discuss forgeign policy ever.

So the governor of Texas should just shut the Hell up when the Mexican gang wars spill onto US soil, not comment cause it’s the great and powerful’s job alone?

I somehow think Cube, that if it were Bush in, and a governor with a big fat honking D on his name, spoke their view, you’d find the argument supporting their right to speak more appealing.

She’s not going away, and neither are we conservatives, no matter how insulting you choose to be. Truthfully, I have no idea who our nominee will be in 2012, I’m only sure, you’d find some excuse to find them moronic, it’s what your party does, thirty years I’ve followed politics, and that is a constant. No matter the education, the service, the experience, your side finds valet parking attendants to be brilliant if they run against any republican. So please, find another line of attack, that ones beyond lame.

Is this where I jump in and make the subject Joe the Biden’s frail grasp of reality the subject, or his gaff of the day a way to beat your side up for his latest brainfart? You really find Joe of the mindlock a better mind than Palin,…. I predict in all sincerity, that he’ll be asked to resign by the president before his term is up. I also predict many a lefty will be glad he’s gone so you can brag about your collective brain power without Joe bending the curve into the gutter.

I don’t normally do that kind of thing, but why not Cube? If the heft of your argument is she’s wrong, and OH, BY THE WAY,… I think she’s…

stick to the issue or don’t bother,. I don’t need to read your view on that a half dozen times or more, I got it the first time,.. care if I start naming the democrats I find to be stupid corrupt or insane?

take a seat, this may take a while.
