People magazine has scored the scoop of the geological era, if internet traffic to their websit
e is to be believed. They’ve got the news on Sarah Palin’s Secret Pregnancy, which means Andrew Sullivan probably did this when he saw the headline. What’s the big secret? Did she really have octuplets that were implanted from Nancy Pelosi’s embryoes? WHAT’S THE SECRET?!? From Extra:
People magazine reports “Trailblazer: An Intimate Biography of Sarah Palin” says “Sarah made one slip-up, but [she] dampened suspicion by explaining it away.” One of her daughters found a prenatal ultrasound scan of Trig and confronted Palin with the picture.
Palin was also aware Trig had been diagnosed with Down syndrome, but did not tell her other children until he was born in April. The unauthorized biography states, “Not discussing the pregnancy with her daughters, she felt, would shorten the process and spare them from unwanted attention.”
Wow. Some hack ghostwriter is aggregating crap he googled about Sarah Palin. Nice “get,” People.
The story also goes on to reveal that Palin’s daughter, Bristol, lived with her aunt and uncle in Anchorage during her own (first and only) pregnancy.
That’s it. So, you only need to know something that everybody knows now, but that was once not known, for it to be a “Secret Whatever.” Like, “Barack Obama’s Secret VP Pick Revealed!” (It was Joe Biden!)
I am a little curious to know exactly how one “explains away” a prenatal ultrasound. Maybe she told her kids that she was working on some spec artwork for a remake of “2001: A Space Odyssey.”

Sometimes, you get a story like this that has too rich a premise. Turns out, the ghostwriter on this also ghostwrote some wingnut Rush Limbaugh collabo. Plus, I could have spent my whole day thinking of photoshop-friendly gags to make Caleb do for me, but who has time for that?
I think the fascination with Palin’s personal life is way over the line disgraceful. From a purely political standpoint, however, it is pure gold for the Democrats.
The more Palin is persecuted like this, the more popular she will become with conservatives. A Palin-led GOP is a big, fat softball for the Dems.
I understand that much of this fascination with her personal life is in the guise of “exposing hypocrisy,” but that’s a tattered and tiny fig leaf. There is an Eden-like abundance of fodder in her political life, too, which leads me to believe that there’s much more to the glee than meets the eye.
